Dearest middle-aged mammals,
I am coming to you this evening from the city of angels at nearly bedtime. Bedtime! My 61 y.o. self needs to recline in bed with a book after a day spent with 29 young mammals. For the past few weeks I have wanted to send you a post card. Miniature size. With only a handful of pictures. To let you know the cottage of Moss and its inhabitants are fine and dandy. My plan is to write much less, much more often. Loosely stitched together ideas without topic sentences, an introduction, or conclusion. You know, like I usually do, only shorter. Experiments in being brief.
Sister and my Cotswold trip draws ever closer.
I’m needlepointing a small sheep to sew onto the cover of my travel journal.
I’m shopping for waterproof shoes.
I wear wigs now. Which means I’m drawing wigs. I’m not ill. Pictures to follow in the next postcard.
It’s cloudy, 56 degrees, and the moon is a waning gibbous.
I think of you often and send many mental transmissions. I hope you’ve received them.
The end.
Sending mental transmission back from up the coast. Feeling the simplified life vibes. xo
Great to see you again! I’m going to follow your lead–much, much less, much, much more often!
I’ve missed your postcards. I was worried about you since it was so long in-between. Glad to know you’re okay. I do miss your longer postcards. Loved your words.
Hello Sharon,
The reason for my shorter transmissions is so that I do them and don’t procrastinate. The experiments in brevity will probably be the exception and not the rule. I know myself too well.
Thanks for chiming in,
yours truly,
MAM
Oh my stars you inspired me, especially this line: My plan is to write much less, much more often.
THANK YOU! I wrote about it in my blog post.
It is good to hear from you!
I totally get it! I will be 66 this week. More rest is needed.
Enjoy your trip to Cotswald. I look forward to hearing about your wonderful trip.
Lorraine (Lori)
LOL
You are a breath of fresh air.
Love your brief postcard, and looking forward to your Cotswold accounts! Safe and easy travels.
thanks for the check in, always a welcome site! good luck with the travel plans and once again the pics are gorgeous!!!
MY DEAR AT2 – are you serious – WIGS?? why? love your short news idea. we are old. and OK. envy your cotswald trip with sister. I love you, AT1
My hair has gone on sabbatical and not returned! Thus I decided to buy some for my 61st birthday. I think of you and Meg so often. All my love xoxoxo
Oh how wonderful to receive a short missive from you! “ Just enough is plenty” I try to remind myself.
Sending good wishes for wonderful travels and rambles in the Cotswolds! Such a lovely patch of heaven.
Always good to get a missive.
I’ve been thinking about you and wondering how you are doing. Thanks for the update.
Loved getting the postcards and catching up a bit with you. Absolutely intrigued with your mention of wearing wigs. That’s because I have been wearing wigs for almost 3 years and love them! Just want to tell you that you should check out Frannie’s Hair if you want to purchase good wigs, get info about all things related to wigs. Her prices are the best, and the videos she makes (especially with her family) are entertaining and make you feel like she’s a friend you’ve never actually met. Kind of like Dispatch from LA.
PS I would love if you would share some of your wig drawings! And I hope you get to retire this year!
Hello Sandy! I’m familiar with Frannie’s Hair. You’ll have to email me some photos of you in your wigs. I insist. Will post mine v.v. soon. xo
Looking forward to your postcards.
I’ve missed you and your dispatches!
Have a lovely time in the Cotswolds.
more frequent and less sounds lovely. wigs sound amazing — I’ve mot been successful with those ventures yet. Cotswalds sounds inviting and refreshing. Cheers to you and thank you for brightening my day.
Debbie,
Wig wearing has a steep learning curve I’m learning. Fortunately I’m v.v. persistent. Thanks for leaving a comment. xo
Lovely surprise to find this Dispatch waiting for me… but the ether transmitted ones are working just fine too… xoxox
Love and look forward to your postcards, no matter the size! Happy to hear all is well at your location. The Cotswold trip sounds lovely.
Bring on the postcards! I hope that you and your sister will have a good and safe trip! I love reading and looking at everything you send
May the weather on our island be kind to you. It’s been very cold of late and before that extremely wet. Prepare for all weathers in one day! Our favourite subject is the weather, see I’m on about it now! Enjoy your trip. I look forward to all your postcards, whatever the size!
So nice you’re going to the Cotswolds fairly soon! Good to hear from you Mary Ann.
Love it!
Love the postcard post and your delightful pictures. I have been with you for years and still make the journals you taught us many years ago( and fill them up too). Enjoy and be happy.
Oh Peggy,
Always so good to hear from you. Glad to hear you’re still filling up the journals. Life is grand. xo
I love your postcards!!!
Greetings to you from Atlanta, GA…..just a girl from Los Angeles who finds herself approaching 60 (feeling and sometimes acting like 16) enjoying your show and tells…I too am a teacher of mammals on this earthly sojourn—thank you for reaching out and sharing😸
It’s Friday! We made it to another weekend. LA sends her regards xo

Dearest Young Mammal
61 is not old, let me tell you.
I hope you’ll have no need to wear those waterproof boots on your trip. But you’re going to a group of islands which has ‘the worst weather and the best climate in the world’ as someone famous once said so best to be on the safe side.
Love postcards. These are lovely and say a lot. X
And to think we shall meet in Bath for days of companionship … after all these years. I cannot wait to see you, dear Chrissy. xoxo
Have a wonderful time with your sister in the Cotswolds! (I know you will.)
XOMICHELE
I’ve been thinking of you! Glad you sent a postcard, I’m excited to get more.
Gwen!!!
Sending you heart bubbles tonight (saturday) from LA to Seattle. love…xo
Do you remember the wigs ladies wore in the late ’60s and early ’70s? My mother had one, along with a set of false eyelashes.
Hope you are well–looking forward to hearing more about your upcoming trip and journal.
XOXO
Mine look nearly identical. Pics to follow! Stay tuned.
Yes! I have been receiving your mental messages on a regular basis! Oh the Cotswolds! Some of my ancestors were from Tewksbury and Cheltenham. I got to go once, several years ago now, and I LOVED it! I’d love to go back. A few ancestors were buried in and near Tewksbury Abbey…so.much.history.
Oh Sally,
thanks for telling me this. If I make it to those locations I will give a nod to your people there. I can’t wait! xo
Mary Ann, I was thinking of you today. You must have received my transmission although several have preceded this one. Wondered how you were coping through the loss of your friend. Hoping you were close to the end of the school year and looking forward to a trip abroad.
Ive been experiencing/processing grief at the loss of my mom, the trauma of watching my one remaining furbaby take her last labored breath, worry as my two in-laws and two friends get diagnosed with cancer, and struggle to remain calm as my 22 year relationship unravels. 2023 was awful and so far 2024 is not great. And yet, I was awestruck witnessing the eclipse in totality in my own backyard. Nature can truly be a salve and salvation during low times. Maybe thats why i went back to look at the photos in your past dispatches and read your words. I’ve missed seeing your view.
Oh Kimberly. Oh oh oh. When all the storms blow through at once it can be so difficult to keep our heads above the water. May our animal and plant companions provide much protection and benediction to you now. I’ll be sending transmissions your way. Heart shaped smoke signals. xoxo
❤️
SISTA! Its Brotha! What a fun surprise to read this. We need to get together soon, eat some icecream or oatmeal! I’ll send you a message soon. Thanks for the postcard!
ice cream AND oatmeal. togethah is bettah, brothah!
So happy to read this. I have been thinking of you. We can be sisters in the hair loss frontier! In a crazy world it’s so good to know you are out there keeping the world sane. Sending love and all the good stuff.
Dearest one, I’m still dreaming of a return trip to Amsterdam one day with YOU. We can both wear bouffant wigs and visit coffee houses and get lost on the way home. But our wigs will steer the gig. For sure. xoxoxo
I’m getting the messages loud and clear. Thank you. Saves not only paper, digits, etc. but transmission time. It’s instant. I feel a book coming on.
Love.
