happy sunday from LA. i’ve been hanging the curtain panels i brought back from bavaria. one is from a flea market and the other 2 window topper style i bought by the yard at a curtain store in mittenwald.
while i was at it, i redid the 5 year old mickey mouse job i did on an embroidered linen tablecloth slash curtain that was on one of my bedroom windows. i bought that tablecloth in 2011 in france. made it into a curtain in 2014, where it stayed on a rickety dowl rod until yesterday when i finally hung it up right. without a live-in fixer person these things tend to fall by the wayside.
if you are a part or full-time plant-based eater you may want to try this. it tastes better than it looks! smashed chickpeas with lots of things added. there’s a “tunafish” variety of this, but this is the mediterranean version. sort of. extremely delicious on toast with a thin layer of guacamole.
i’m a part-time PBE and love trying interesting new things i run across online or in my deliciously ella cookbook. she also has a youtube channel i love watching.
wyatt is not a plant-based eater, but he did look like he was going to appreciate the catnip cave i picked up for him at target.
nope. not interested. maybe later.
in the bedroom i removed the ancient gingham roman blinds i got at ikea in 2002 and replaced them with some brand spanking new red gingham curtains.
i keep going in my room and staring at them. pure tail-thumping love every single time.
i’m also spending a lot of time staring at my flea market panel.
it’s funny how a few small things can cast such a cozy ambiance over everything.
thanks again for all the wishlist gifts for my classroom! every one of those art supplies i listed was purchased and will be put to very good use. the official word from amazon is that unless you indicated that the wishlist item was a GIFT when you submitted your order, there was no receipt of any kind put in the envelope. seems like a dumb policy to me because it makes it impossible to thank people. so if you don’t receive a personal thank-you from me (via amazon) please know just how appreciative i am anyway, because…I AM.
in case i haven’t mentioned it lately, there’s enormous pleasure and relaxation involved in randomly pulling the car to the side of the road and doing a quick sketch.
okay that’s the final random smoke signal i’m sending out into the blogosphere on this early sunday evening. hope you’re well. planning trips, baking cakes, ironing curtains, and engaging in all manner of domestic bliss.

I, too, am a part time plant based eater and am going to get me some chickpeas and an avocado to make this. Also, I picked up Cake by Maira Kalman and Barbara Scott-
Goodman this weekend. It has gorgeous illustrations as well as a nice selection of cake recipes. I am loving those red curtains; it’s amazing how something small can freshen up a space. Enjoy those school kids!

I haven’t been around for a while so I’m happy to have stopped by your house Mary Ann! What fun. Your sketching? Curtains galore! And chick peas?! I just finished an at-my-desk snack of hummus (the creamy-dreamy one from Trader Joe’s) with Snap Peas. Whew! I love this wavelength. I’m refreshed and inspired for sure.

I love all your curtains! You are so right about how little things can make a big difference. I just bought and am almost finished with installing new kitchen hardware. Wow, it changed the whole look of my kitchen into something that makes me much happier. Can hardly wait to finish my whole kitchen redo so I will love it all. Have a wonderful week with your new crop of students. They are one lucky group to be in your class!

I love the red curtains! I also eat smashed chickpea sandwiches all the time; if you’re in the mood for some extra heat, you can add some Sriracha, spicy mustard, or pickled jalapeños. 🤗
