absolutely love this video my friend dorothy sent me. joan jonas is a fascinating artist and one with whom i was totally unfamiliar. i do so love finding these interesting people outside the social media spheres around which we tend to orbit.
in my own tiny world i’ve been trying to make a mini gouache painting in my 3×5 moleskine each afternoon.
the smallness of the objects i’m painting makes it seem doable and so far i am doing it, but there’s nothing like a daily challenge to make me rebellious. so i’m not calling it anything. except Sometimes I Paint Little Things In My Little Sketchbook.
in the classroom the kids have been using shadow & light to make ice cream cones. oh boy!
i have a donor’s choose project that’s expiring in a week. trying to get more computers into my classroom. donor’s choose is matching offers today for all projects so i’m hoping this will push us over the top. very grateful to all of you who have time and again donated to my class. If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. My students and I greatly appreciate your support and today any contribution made will be doubled by the first million fund.
big thanks from the little classroom in the heart of LA’s chinatown. xo

The ice cream cones are wonderful. It’s obvious that you have inspired your young students. What a fine teacher you are. And thanks for sharing the video.

your students are producing real art!!! you must get so much positive feedback from their parents!!! Do these kids realise what a wonderful teacher they have giving them some bagage for life?!!

She is so creative. Love her risky experimentation. So free.
P.S. I thought your students’ ice cream cones were by a new illustrator you just found. So fantastic. How lucky they are to have art education.
