i’ve been working in the garden today. it’s a constant attempt to contain the uncontainable. but i don’t try that hard since messy gardens are my specialty.
here’s a little video i made of the state of affairs in the new succulent bed. just a wee ramble around…
see you soon!

I just downloaded History of Love. Thank you for the recommendation. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is holding my attention right now . . . intriguing. I also recently purchased the Cipe Pineles book, Leave Me Alone with the Recipes; I am drooling over the beautiful illustrations in gouache. Happy reading, Mary Ann!

Thanks for the garden tour, Mary Ann. I can see your avid interest in gardening because you also do a lot of art showing plants of all kinds. Keep on keeping on!

All you have to do is cut off a piece of plant and stick it into the ground….and it grows! I think I will bookmark this post and return to it whenever I tire of batting the hard clay soils and immoderate temperatures of Kansas….every other day or so 🙂

i like to keep things SIMPLE so as not to get confused. Succulents are like that!

Excellent! I want regular updates. I need some of those sawed off tree trunks of various heights and weights. So cool looking among the plants and perfect for setting a pot on. I was waiting for your garden supervisors at the end 😄

Hi, Mary Ann.
Thanks for your garden tour. It is really beautiful! I have a hillside that I find difficult to care for so I planted a bunch of different succulents. They have quickly spread to cover the whole area and it is so beautiful. I also have an English-style cottage garden here in the Pacific Northwest and there are still a number of things that are still blooming, quite different from the garden I used to have in Massachusetts! That was one of the things that prompted me to move from the east coast out here.
Hope you have a very happy holiday season.
PS….If I remember correctly, I took a class from you many moons ago at Art Fest, which took place about a mile from my house.

LOVED seeing your succulent garden, Mary Ann! My youngest son has a horticultural degree from Michigan State and he got me interested in succulents 3 years ago. Since I live in Michigan and winter in Florida I needed house plants that required little tending, so they’re perfect. And I love all the varieties that are available! 🙂🌵

what a nice arrangement. winter in one spot and summer in another. sounds about perfect to me!

Thanks for the succulent garden tour. I spent a few hours pulling weeds in my garden today. Hoping to put down newspaper and mulch in a few areas tomorrow to suppress the winter weeds.

Your tapestry garden is coming along nicely! I love succulents and keep a couple pots of them in my kitchen window here in upstate NY. I always look forward to your posts. I also have to say that I loved The Poisonwood Bible too (even after my 14 year old daughter poo-pooed it). Thank you for all your book recommendations. They keep me entertained on my commute to and from work.
