sunday draws to a close.
a new school week begins in 12 hours.
we painted constellations for science on friday on velvety black cardstock, then used white pens for the letters.
it is very nice indeed when i have time to unplug from everything else and spend some time in the sketchbook.
i cannot waste all the time i want staring into space, or mindlessly surfing the vast interwebs dreaming of far away places.
except i did find this cabin in the woods.
wanderlust can be painful.
it’s still summery here for the most part, although this morning the hills were blanketed in thick white fog.
i’ve started a new book after finishing lighthouse island. which. frankly, i loved. but, that doesn’t mean you will.
am now going back in time again to the 18th century. so far so good.
if you’re doing something amazing i’ll need to know. particularly if it involves travel of any kind.
i’ll just be here. doing this and that.

We are soon heading north towards Mendocino. Looking forward to a change from the warm LA weather. I do hope it is foggy and damp! We have reservations at an inn that has a long common porch that faces the ocean. There are red rocking chairs waiting for us there. I am taking my paints and sketchbook along with a Louise Penny book. So ready for a change of scenery!!
Mary Ann Moss says
pick me up on your way outta town?

Sylvia Heacock says
I would love to! Unfortunately, you cannot leave your class unattended.

I’m planning to go to London this coming spring. But I’m hemming and hawing on the plane fare and the location. If only I could fly out of Newark to Gatwick and back. However, it would have to be JFK to Gatwick. And everyone tells me, “Noooooo! Do not drive to JFK from your home! It’s a ride through the 8th ring of hell!”
I love to see your sketches. Thanks for sharing them.
Mary Ann Moss says
ha ha ha ha! i’m sure dante would insist upon that drive. oh the hellish glories you’ll experience!

I am doing a flash tour of the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Flagstaff in an RV at the end of October. Never traveled in an RV before. Never driven one either but life is full of firsts, right? Tally ho!

I must admit I await the email in my inbox that says you have added another post to your blog like a lover eagerly watching the phone, willing it to ring. I was not disappointed, as soothing, inspiring, joyful and dreamy as ever. And the comments left by other people are wonderful too. You make my day Ms Moss. So, back to waiting….
Mary Ann Moss says
hello clare. i too love this set of comments. so rich and good!

I will be staying home enjoying the first rain in 25 days. When my car comes home with new front tires – the old ones were still under warranty but had dry rot and were crumbling – I plan to go up to the MD/PA area and visit Antrhopologie’s sister store Terrain. When the temperatures start dropping round here, I get back to feeling like getting out and about. I wonder if Marianne (above) has visited this store. She is a friend of a friend – amazing how the on line world works.

Just booked tickets to spend the last six weeks of the year in Europe – no set plan yet except to visit Christmas markets and then spend December as far south in Spain as we can.
First snow in Colorado tonight – booking an adventure makes it trivial.
I’m outta here.
Mary Ann Moss says
so so so envious of your 6 week block of time away. how magical! i will think about it on my drive to school this morn…
Marianne Perry says
Love your cabin in the woods!
Today we drove from Launceston to the East Coast of Tasmania to see the Bay of Fires-white sand beach as far as the eye can see, brilliant blue sky, sun dancing on the ocean. On our way home from Australia later this week, we’re stopping in Santa Barbara-it’s all your fault for posting such wonderful photos of it-for a few days before continuing home to the US East Coast.
Mary Ann Moss says

Sitting in Rome with my Sitchbookery journal. There is so much here, probably did not include enough pages, but I do love the structure of the journal and am so glad I took the class! Have many accordian books planned for when I get home. Thanks for the inspiration you share!
Mary Ann Moss says

ENJOY lois. every single minute!
Lois Reynolds Mead says
Our apartment has been in Trastevere this two weeks. An excellent neighborhood to stay in…it has been perfect. The Villa Farnesina is a knockout with an exhibit on how they restored frescoes and figured out what pigments had been used. Plus a few Raphaels. Wednesday it is on to Venice…
Mary Ann Moss says
2 weeks in rome and now VENICE? oh oh oh lois… i am overcome with envy.

I just returned from Cape Cod, staying in a beach house on the ocean. It was glorious and I didn’t want to leave!! I was in a restaurant eating fabulous seafood and an artist sitting at a table next to me was sketching…she was so inspiring and shared her artwork with me and was so encouraging!! I need to free myself from fear of sketching and enjoy!!
