my juicer & blender are getting a workout this summer. the other day i had some berries on the verge of going bad in the fridge so i tossed them into my juice. i’m amazed at the sweetness of fruit. and when combined with mint, 1/4 lemon with peel, and cucumber. my kitchen was surely the most aromatic on the block. a divine fruit cocktail!
this juice has body to it, almost like a thin smoothie.
i’m trying to get more greens in so i’ve also been making a delicious smoothie with fresh baby kale, chard, spinach, frozen blueberries, frozen pineapple, flax, and oj. very palatable. if you make a green smoothie that is dairy free, i’d love to hear about it! or a juice blend for that matter. do tell.
i want to push summer’s stop button. being in my kitchen with the morning sunlight, listening to the birds, the breeze moving the branches, a dome of blue just outside. well, it just makes me feel ecstatic. being home is such a pleasure.
i’ve been putting together carol & my travel journals. mine is finished. since my trip coincides with STITCH*BOOKERY i’ll go through the process of making the book with you in class. have been trying to document the journey from piles of paper, thread, and images to completed book.
here’s where i am.
now i begin sister’s !

Here’s a few green smoothies! http://www.thewacovegan.com/vegan-smoothies/#green
Also, somewhere I had a recipe for a kiwi avocado smoothie, which involved kiwi, avocado, lemon (peeled, but dropped into the blender — not just lemon juice), coconut milk — I think I added shredded coconut to it, too. If I find the actual recipe I’ll come back with it

Haven’t been to Lummi and was wondering which island you were going to visit up here. Have a marvelous time. And I’m going to try your beverage – sounds delicious.

claudia,
we chose it because of it’s slow pace and it seemed a bit further off the beaten track
enjoy the juice. i wuv it.

I got busted for eating so much sugar-the morning smoothie was the easiest thing to adjust. OJ is full of sugar, so substituting Almond Milk or buttermilk and a spoonful of yogurt cuts down on it. Also, my doc said adding unflavored whey protein would help balance all the fruit.

bananas are the key to delicious dairy (or nut milk) free green drinks… kale + a little water + a banana + other fruit = tasty. : )

Ah, Lummi Island! You will love it there. I can see you and Carol, soaking up the joy that is a Puget Sound summer and being together—laughing, journaling, walking, wading, living! So happy for you two. Nice to know you’ll be near by. Enjoy yourself. You deserve it.
