i need more time.
despite the fact that i enjoy my students, i’d prefer to be home basking in domesticity, planning roadtrips, reading, making exotic youtube recipes in my new instapot. (do you have one do you love it?!)
work isn’t compatible with conducting experiments in my art laboratory either, which so far have not been extensive with my new pad of rough watercolor paper.
drat!
i did create this masterpiece while taking my chariot for her oil change.
i’m determined to fill the rest of my square sketchbook pages with books like these.
some i like much more than others.
i do think there’s value in drawing & painting the same little scenes over and over. maybe i will watercolor a series of bookish thumbnails onto a rough watercolor page.
maybe i’ll do it right now, before i dash off to put the clothes in the dryer or change the litter box.
priorities!
i’m reading the 2nd dublin murder squad book – THE LIKENESS, after finishing IN THE WOODS. i go to bed ridiculously early most nights so i can read. i’m very happy knowing i have more of this series to look forward to. there are several arty reads i’ve also wanted to share here – keep meaning to draw & paint them, but so far my bookcase studies keep taking over.
hmmm…

I’m watching snow flurries right now! but lately it has been moving furniture, purging things for a pick up this am and drinking HiLine coffee. I’m strictly digital art so looking at how the other half lives is fun. I’m reading Bluffing Mr. Churchill in John Lawton’s Inspector Troy series. I too love books in a series and sadly miss Henning Mankell. Oh what a loss.

Painting or drawing the same subject repeatedly has got me thinking. Thanks for inserting that idea into my noggin. I’m reading the artist Brian Rutenberg’s book, “Clear Seeing Place”.

For the next rainy weekend – just discovered on Netflix – Escape to the Country. Amazingly interesting real estate shopping in the U.K. It is binge worthy just to see the beautiful country and learn a little history and regional information on the way. How about a thatched roof cottage?
Best to you
Nan

Love your bookcases!! I’m currently enjoying “The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady”. I also have “The nature notes of an Edwardian lady” which is a predecessor to the “Diary”. I am enchanted by her watercolours and drawings.

they are both so good!

Work has always been inconvenient to my lifestyle, too (thank goodness for retirement)! 😉 But the way you make snippets of art in your life is always inspiring. That’s the way to do it — wherever you can make it fit, and not waiting until you have “more time.”

Lovely paintings, Mary Ann. Those books…fabulous. I have a small collection of old books, not to read so much, as for the covers. I have an affinity for pretty covers. I was just thinking the other day about photographing them for IG. I also have a first edition of The Harvester, which I got as a gift from an old boyfriend. He is long gone, but I still have that book. It’s cover and is somewhat plain, but some of the covers are artworks in themselves.
I don’t work outside the home now, (retired massage therapist) but still have difficulty making time to do art and read. For me, it is a matter of making time, which I haven’t been doing. Distractions happen. Pets, kids, grandkids, husband, all have plans for my time.
Yesterday was my mammogram and ultrasound, and after a few terrifying false alarms, I was pronounced clear. PHEW! A big sigh of relief, and a new lease on life.
The peahen is doing okay, but the peacock is seeming weak. It took him three attempts to get to his perch up in the tree tonight whereas it used to be effortless for him. Didn’t seem hungry this morning, and just sat most of the day on an old doghouse. THey hang out at a neighbor’s house and I see them in the morning when I feed them, and when I go somewhere and come back. I am worried, but there is not much I can do. The weather has been very wet and cold, and pretty unpleasant for them. Sigh…

here’s to new life, new choices, and healthy peacocks!

I haven’t read a book by Tana French that I did not enjoy. The characters in each book are different but they overlap enough that there is some continuity and I like that. I also like your bookshelf paintings. Painting the same thing is good; it gives you an even deeper connection . Did you watch Wallander? His father always painted the same thing. I thought at the time that it was strange, but now I understand it (at least a little).
Mary Ann Moss says
wallander – the swedish version – YES! i just remembered about his father’s paintings. i miss that series…

Even when you are retired, life can get in the way of doing those things we love.
Sometimes you have to block in your play-times on the calendar in order to pursue fun things……
….but I am still sooooo thankful to be retired and healthy!

waving to you sylvia from up here in NELA!

I know what you mean about work interfering with what are the best things in life. I think you reach a certain age and those other things become so much important. 🙂 I am off to bed myself to read. Its a wonderful thing to do on a damp (or any) night.
Mary Ann Moss says
mmm i wonder what you’re reading..
