hey you crazy kids!
i’m home cruising into 2017 in the slow lane. finishing up my travel journal. petting my giant white kitten. and the missus…
we’ve had some cold rainy wintery weather.
perfect for lighting my new electronic candles with their remote control. snow is visible in the mountains since i can’t remember when.
how what where are you? keep me posted on your hijinks.
i’ll just be here with the big cats. piddling in the house with my leg warmers pulled up high, finishing up some last sketches from photos in my travel journal. reading a few new books. thinking about the balmy winds of granada. wondering who julio is carting around these days. enjoying the last of the christmas lights. and these last precious few days of vacay before i return to the classroom.
see you soon!

Wow-how wonderful you have this week off, too! I thought you were gonna have to giddy up and go still all covered in Nicaragua goose bumps.
As you know, I’ve started Oh My Gouache down here in Mexico land where Senor Google doesn’t yield results like he does in the USA. I squeezed out my gouache before watching the video about the Goma Arabe. Sure enough, it all cracked, the housekeeper picked up the pan and it all fell out.
Soooo, I took a friend on a field trip into Guadalajara in search of the magic elixer. There is no Dick Blick in Guadalajara, there are however, papelerias varias en el centro. I swear to god that was all the info I had going into the city of 6 million. I struck out, but did come home with two more store names tucked into my back jeans pocket to explore another day. We hit Costco and Home Depot, I’ve run her off, put my shit away and now have my feet up with the doggies and enjoying a big glass of Kombucha. Life feels very sweet right now.
In a minute I’m going to get up from here and snag Hilde and put her it the pool and make her swim while I hold her in place. She tore both ligaments in one knee before Christmas and is still not walking after surgery. This is the only think I can think to do for her. It’s not that fun.

oh poor hilde 🙁 you’re an excellent physical therapist and a credit to your profession (albeit adopted)
i bet the 2nd adventure into G. will yield the G.A. crossing fingers for you !

My basic question today was, “don’t Mexicans have trouble with paint crackage?” I had one gal tell me she takes honey from her bees and mixes it into her watercolor and another tell me she mixes in glycerin. Have you ever heard of either of these solutions? Given the propensity for critters around here (we just evicted a rat as big as my foot out of my car) I’m intrigued and afraid about the honey solution. And should I move this discussion over to Oh My Gouache, lol? So many different places to talk to you!

i’ll email you…

I’m loving your journal. Really a masterpiece!! Happy New Year from freezing North Bend. Sooooooooo cold hard to get motivated but I am sketching up a storm while wearing my 32 degree Heat long johns.Quite a picture. Feeding the birds three times a day, listening to the heat pump never turn off ( can hardly wait for the heat bill 🙁 ) Looking forward to summer. LOL But loving life. Thanks for another great trip !

waving to you up there in the frozen north! glad you’re keeping the birdies alive 🙂

Glad you reminded me. I need bird seed down here on frosty snowy River Bend. Those 32 degree things are great. I have some from Costco. Might need some pants.

Hi MAM! Happy new year! I had to laugh when I read “Remember this:” I guess you read Nabokov’s “Speak, memory”… I also loved that book and specially what his mum used to tell him…

Ha. You saw it. Is he not a hoot? Second time we have been on his Tropical Bike tour and he never disappoints. Sooo funny. I am going to draw a map of our route soon. He said he didn’t care. Handily I noticed my iPhone kept track of where we were when I took photos on our ride. If you haven’t been to Key West – well everyone should go at least once. Too bad we aren’t there now. Snow in Georgialina is coming tomorrow nite. Tropical breezes would be great.

Despite seeing the most snow since we’ve moved here, we are doing OK. We tried to go somewhere today, but we got stuck about halfway out of our driveway!! Fortunately, we were sent an angel who lived in our neighborhood who was able to tow us to a safe position.
Jeff, we are forever grateful to you!!!
Welcome home, MAM ~ Rejoice that your snow is far from you!
