i’m leaving for nicaragua in 9 days! i stitched up this brand spanking new travel journal last night. the bold paper on the back & inside cover is from a sheet of carolyn gavin giftwrap – tropical jungle wrap to be precise. the brown craft paper page is from a little pull-out booklet in a recent issue of uppercase magazine. i tore it apart, cut it up, and added it to my sketchbook. it’s always nice to have some thin pages for writing.
i deconstructed a 5×8 landscape moleskine watercolor sketchbook, added some found papers, made some new covers out of an old chinese boardbook, then resewed the entire thing into the new/old covers. aqui esta voila! it’s lightweight so i can carry it with me to various locations in and around granada.
among other things, i want to swim in the warm blue waters of the largest volcanic lagoon in nicaragua. !!!
the zenith of my adventure will be walking through the storied streets of granada. and since i’ll be traveling solo i’ll have plenty of time for sending dispatches out into the world.
here’s hoping you’re preparing for your own kind of december adventures. keep me posted.
Entirely clever, this heading out of town for the ‘holidays’ thing! I think it’s only a holiday for the under 10’s…for grownups there’s nothing holidayish about it. It’s a lot of work, all this wrapping and visiting and such. Head out of town and get a hall pass! Loving the new journal and of course I’ll be studying it assiduously for tips and inspiration – wishing you a very happy Christmas, Miss MAM. I’m getting outta town too, January 1 – off to England for 9 days. It’s a Landmark Birthday Occasion! You know the kind…
Mmmm….I want to rummage around that desk. What is the item on the left under your journal in the last photo? Another journal? A pouch?
Your digs in Nicaragua look amaaaazing. I’m excited for photos and painting. I don’t have my next trip planned but I’ve been thinking of journaling Seattle as though I were visiting.
I am loving your new journal, especially the cover!!!! They are going to have to open the Mary Ann Moss journal library soon. I will be one of the first to come and read about all your escapades. Love you and safe travels.
Hooray! Another trip! I just booked a trip to France and this post has inspired me once again to prepare a travel journal! May have to sign up for a class to further the inspiration along as my trip isn’t until May. Thanks for all you say and create to motivate and inspire your faithful blogging fans!
You’ve made another very fun travel journal – can’t wait to do some armchair traveling with you.
P.S. Speaking of Uppercase (& you may already know this (or even know her): my Uppercase email mentioned art by Karen Stanton. Cute paintings/drawings of dogs & cats on collaged papers. So many talented peeps out there in blogland.
Nicaragua? I admit that’s one place I’ve never thought of traveling to, but why not? Looking forward to your dispatches.
Que le vaya bien. Stick with Flor de Cana rum; don’t even get started on that Joya stuff. Your brains will bubble up beneath your toe nails.
duly noted!
Look forward to hearing about and seeing your adventures, Mary Ann!
I so admire your adventurous spirit! I could never do that. Certainly will enjoy seeing what you put in your beautiful new journal. Also….love what you do with your students….great teacher. Have a great trip!

That travel journal is so rich and lush. To die for. Looking forward to dispatches from Nicaragua! Don’t forget sensible shoes and room in suitcase for new acquired treasures. Now, off you go…
