doesn’t this fallen magnolia pod look like a painting? i can’t wait to make that happen.
i cleaned out my enormous paper cabinet this week and reacquainted myself with some of its luscious contents. i have a sudden need to cut & paste.
it’s overwhelming actually.
my mixed paper book is taking shape.
so here it is. just a glimpse into various objects and activities this saturday morning at moss cottage.
here’s my new “bathroom door.” brought back from guatemala where it was hand woven and embroidered. i added a few patches of guatemalan textiles…
i especially love the hand-mending that was already on this piece of fabric…
i added a heart. by hand. then i realized i didn’t have the werewithal to hand stitch ALL of my patches. endless admiration for the embroiderers, hookers and stitchers of the world.
i finished construction my new sketchbook journal!
i’m going to begin adding more paper to the insides and will share proper photos in my next post.
a bit of pineconery from a recent walk.
i spotted this monarch on yesterday’s walk
as you can see i’m up to my eyeballs in rich images to draw and watercolor into my new journal.
there is a creative world spinning in my head that i must honor.
i also honor and stand in solidarity with france. i hope these recent attacks don’t make it more difficult for the syrian refugees in search of safe homes….so much to think about. and while i think, i will be busy cutting, pasting, drawing, and watercoloring my way through the day.
hope you’re well and safe and happy.

Oh there it is! That wonderful curtain! And your new book is __________Insert every wonderful artsy adjective on line! Your paper collection is a feast for the eyes, and I especially love that handwritten aged envelope. I have a paper fetish so it was like paper porn looking at all of that:). I have one journal that is just for gluing paper into…no painting or drawing, just gluing. It is quite therapeutic! The pod absolutely DOES look like a painting. Thank you for sharing your colorful world with us! France is heavy on my heart. Paris has long been known as the city of love, and hate won’t be allowed to diminish that. Love is stronger than hate, and love always wins in the end. That is not just something people say…it is the truth. There are far more good people in the world than haters. Viva La France!

Your lazy Saturday doin’s look wonderful as does the newest journal. Love that curtain. OMG it’s so beautiful. The hand stitching adds so much life to it. Nothing better than cutting and pasting. I’ve been doing a lot of it as well. It feels right to take delight in such simplicity and beauty on a day after so much pain. As with the world, I’m filled with sadness at the attack on Paris and standing strong with them. My heart goes out to them. Thanks for the sweet reminder of a gentler and kinder place on the planet.

Thanks for all the motivation and inspiration. I am so with you on the issue of refugees having a harder time because of the Paris attack. If our responses and laws are made from a place of anger and hate, then the terrorists have won. It takes strength and honor to be true to who we are, and to have normal citizens be secure as well as providing safety and support (i.e. food and shelter) to those fleeing their homes – until they can go home. It has no more impact on Paris if you are upset and angry or if you are delighted and full of joy – I know which one I choose. Pass it on. Thanks Mary Ann

MAM, since I was in France in May and spent the last four days of the trip in Paris, it was so sad to hear of the attack. It grieves me that many will stay out of France and other foreign places out of fear. As tourists we only get a small taste of any place we visit, we whet our appetite for a return visit. Knowing the fear and uncertainty that gripped our nation after 9/11, I hope the French people can have peace and security restored quickly.
As always, you give us inspiration and food for thought with your blog posts. Last night I had a VIVID dream where I was painting random pieces of furniture I got at a thrift store (in the dream). One piece was a large, upright piano and there was a crate, too, that I recall. I was painting with wild abandon and kept telling people how easy it was and not to be afraid to try it. I woke up smiling and realized my subconscious was giving me a message that I need to do something crafty or creative! ???. Thanks for all you to encourage us and light a fire under our behinds! LOL

Always an inspiration to receive your dispatches. I love the look of persimmons…..painted one last night into my sketchbook.
Your teaching (Sketchbookery ) allows us the freedom to paint outside the lines as we please, as you are so fond of
saying “because we are the boss and we can.”

It’s refreshing to see those breathtaking textiles being used. I have several pieces Ive acquired; so far all I do is fondle them occasionally.
I’m always drawn to light blue sky & pink/coral florals. This seems like a filter – if so, is it built in w iPhone camera or is it one you’ve added? I remember those yummy early early PhotoShop Actions filters you used on the Mexican shop & church images (early early). Similar color experience.

hi susan!
that is a filter from a bundle i’ve had for many years called TOTALLY RAD. there are 40 or so filters…you can combine them. i use them in Photoshop CS5 on my imac computer desktop. i do think they make them for iphone, but i’m not sure…
