this is what i decided to do with my leftover postcards from sweden…
draw on the back with my pentel pocket brush pen. the paper is smooth and the pen glides along.
which, for your information, is most agreeable.
syd & mary are joining me for 1 of my 3 weeks in antigua, guatemala in october. we’re staying here:
antigua sits in the guatemalan highlands and the weather is often referred to as “eternal spring” with mild days and chilly nights. i’m looking forward to building fires each night as i did when i went to san cristobal de las casas in chiapas, which was also in a highland region (of mexico).
you may know that i grew up (from ages 6-12) in the panama, canal zone. this will be my first time back in central america since then. looking forward to waking up to volcano views every morning.
i feel compelled to make the most of my leave of absence by traveling somewhere every month. big world. new places must see them. must see them all.
Love that idea for postcards…I drew on those throwaway tourists maps while I was in Key West. Now to glue them in a travel journal!! Did I say I might be jealous of you and all that traveling?!!! OH MY!!!! So cool…cant wait to follow your journey!!
I was in Guatemala (Antigua and Santiago Atitlan) for the first time in February. I loved it and I’m going back in November. If you have a chance go to Lake Atitlan it is beautiful. Good food at Cafe Condesa in Antigua. A wonderful selection of items from all over Guatemala are on sale at Nim Pot. I’m looking forward to seeing the art work you create while you are there – the colors and scenery will inspire you.
I love Antigua, Guatemala! Be sure to at least step into the lobby of Casa Santo Domingo. It’s a hotel that was a monestery hundreds of years ago. We stayed there & it was gorgeous! If you can have breakfast on their patio, you’ll be in Heaven!
Wonderful! I love how you get the most out your days and let us tag along. Thank you!
Traveling somewhere every month includes camping trips for me! so I am managing pretty well too so far. Oh I might have missed in January this year. GREAT policy – my G-Kids call it Oma’s Adventure Policy (yes with caps). I encourage you all to adopt it. Thanks for sharing Mary Ann – I just collected up all the extra postcards from this year and was wondering what to do with them – now I know!
I can only imagine how excited you are, your home away from home looks inviting and cozy. I’ll be there in spirit. I have no doubt your adventure will be as grand as the views.
Love the kitty portrait and wow @ that fabulous window and the breathtaking view from it. Amazing! Great idea to use those postcards as a canvas too. When you told us your book selection I admit to being a copycat. I ordered A Man Called Ove to my Ipad library and will start it today. Maybe you should start a book club, MAM. I think I saw a discussion booklet on Amazon about this book. Will have to re-check that. Have a creatively excellent day!
Wow! Okay, I’m on it….getting psyched. You’re going to need your own travelogue TV show pretty soon – lucky you! Love the dotted kitty.
Another trip….I have not unpacked from your Sweden trip. But I’ll be ready. Love the kitty postcard.
I’ve been to San Cristobal de las Casas, spent the night there in a lovely hotel with a view from our room. The night was very chilly which I loved after being at near heat stroke level the day before and for most of the birding trip I was on. We were just across the border from Guatemala at one point, I’m sure you’ll have a mah- vel- ous time in that gorgeous house/hacienda in Antigua! Wowzers.
I’m glad you’re making the most of your sabbatical. There’s nothing like travel to widen your scope on life.
antigua is, by far, one of my favoritest places on this planet. you will LOVE it. october will be the perfect weather! cannot wait to hear what adventures and shenanigans you get into.
I love all your travel plans. Lucky you! (And smart too, if you can do it, go for it!) I wish I could travel as much, but financially it’s just not possible. Still, it’s nice to live a little vicariously through you. And it’s not like I don’t go anywhere. Just planned a last minute to one of the other islands for the coming weekend. I just felt like having a little private getaway. Will have ocean view. The weather forecast is terrible, but I don’t care. If anything else I’ll sit by the fireplace with a good book looking up every now and then to enjoy the rolling waves in the distance!
I love the cards, that’s a great idea. The first one with the cat is just adorable. I have a couple of pentel pocket brushes and I really enjoy working with them. The line is pleasantly unpredictable without going overboard.
Actually, it’s addressed to Cocteau in Paris. (It looks like an ocean outside the window).
After seeing your cat postcard, I thought you might enjoy one that Picasso did. If you google PABLO PICASSO POSTCARD TO JEAN COCTEAU, it will come up. It’s a watercolor looking out a window in Paris. So simple but wonderful.
The cat postcard…really cool.
Great trips ahead of you, so pleased at the great choices and the company you keep!
