this was a painting in ingrid’s beach cottage where i had the great privilege to stay last month. on a lovely island near strömstad in the skagerrak sea. you’ve heard me say that before. i like stringing those particular words together.
on a lovely island near strömstad in the skagerrak sea
following are some photos i haven’t shown before.
another glimpse into my time there by way of scenes inside the cottage. ingrid is a great lover of art & artists and her main home & this cottage reflect that beautifully. i think moss cottage needs walls like this. they are charming and beachy. of course it won’t happen anytime soon, i’ll just add it to the idea list.
ingrid’s been sending me videos of the swan family who circles the island with their brood of baby swans.
it brings me straight back here.
to this peaceful place bathed in pale light.
my haven at ingrid’s.
in the middle of all this calm there is my alter ego sitting in los angeles having her gargantuan blog migrated over to wordpress.
insert loud scratch sound as the needle grates across the album i just pulled off our little recordplayer.
i’ve more or less set things up the way i like them at the new place and in a few days i’ll be 100% moved. while my teacher friends flock back to the classroom and prepare for opening day on tuesday, i am here tending to this work.
it is good work and i like doing it in my slow poky way.
and… going for good mexican food at local dives here in highland park. sipping my cold ice tea from an old vinyl booth. eating my enchiladas verdes. and plotting and planning DFLA’s move to wordpress. this is strictly a low-key operation.
there’ll be no parades, confetti, ribbon cutting, or any of that kind of thang. just a new house that i built at the exact same address as this one. you won’t have to do anything except keep coming over for pie & coffee on the porch. (more on this tomorrow)
in the meantime here are some pretties from stockholm.
pretty store windows.
sturdy boxes for my art studio that i almost bought before i came to my senses.
a splashy svenskt tenn bureau. i have placemats in all these wild patterns!
hope your friday night is shaping up to be a good one.
i’ll just be here. doing stuff.

I’m tossing some unauthorized and renegade confetti, in celebration of getting to travel along with you on your adventures, regardless of which space I hear about them from. 🙂
Happily anticipating more Travels with Mary Ann — in your back yard, around LA, and in more distant places. 🙂

Hi Mary Ann,
I had understood that I had access to FTB until the end of this year. Now I’ve read Jan’s comment, I’m wondering if I have got that wrong. Please would you clarify? Thank you. And thank you for all the pleasure I get from your blog.

Hi Mary Ann, I know your older courses will not be switching to your new blog. Just today I am accessing FTB to refresh making sewn over tapes binding (which I can’t seem to do without your help). I’m wondering if there is a (heavy) discount for those of us who might want to “re-purchase” the class. I don’t access these classes much but love having them available on days like today.
