i’m afraid it will violate my sense of chronology to skip to my island adventure with ingrid, but it is forthcoming. i have lots to show and many exclamations to share. at present i’m rolling back through the verdant swedish countryside purring along with the train. still smiling about my time in stromstad with ingrid and her menfolk.
but let’s time travel for a bit shall we? back to monday when i stepped through the doors of glida’s rum (room) if you find yourself in stockholm, go here at once traveler!
you will be welcomed by a dark interior with burnished wood tables, candles, patterned tiles, excellent coffee, and an assortment of sandwiches, salads, cakes, buns, and tarts to choose from.
the best thing for me was the fact that the sun-worshipping swedes were packed in tables outside, while i had the cozy interior practically to myself. perfect.
i spread out my travel journal, ordered my lunch and settled in for an extended midday break.
which.
involved pie.
witness top photo of this post: latte in a bowl + raspberry caramel tart with a generous dollop of vanilla cream.
and below: toasted pesto, mozza, goat cheese, walnut sandwich.
after a couple of hours i ambled off for a stroll through the neighborhood.
my eyes are always drawn towards windows.
soon i found myself in the vicinity of sofia katarina kyrka, a pretty confection of a church.
i abandoned my map and kept strolling. stopping there and there to sit on benches and send my sister text pics along the way. she was taking her customary crack-of-dawn walk in kansas at the same time as i walked about sodermalm, so we shared our findings.
it’s fun to wander and come upon something unexpected like an amazing viewpoint. mosebacketerassen –
a beer garden with live music, but today thankfully it was quiet with plenty of empty benches.
and giant alice-in-wonderland chairs.
it began to drizzle so i headed down the hill towards home. window-shopping along the way.
i liked these coasters, but kept moving. i had my eye on other things…
only the best for me, my friends!
i pulled vinyl stickers off poles and stuck them in my travel journal.
a good day of slow travel.
next up: swedish island life with ingrid!

Love Swahili Bob’s! I like using band posters (after the event) in my art journal. The longer they have been on the pole, the better, though…. once I pulled one down and held it on my lap all the way home, only to find that about forty bazillion spider egg sacs were stuck to the other side. Not likely to happen with stickers so I think you are safe. I, however, freaked out and put the poster into a ziplock bag just in case the sacs spontaneously decided to hatch, and then ran and took a Silkwood Shower.

The yellow church is Kararina Kyrka, It was built 1695 but has been destroyed from fire twice. Last fire was in 1990 and the restored church was ready as is, 1995.
just some info for you

Swahili Bob’s??? Oh, my. It’s probably a good thing we don’t travel together….I can see us fighting over lamppost ephemera and scraps of things fallen to the ground. It would be embarrassing to be snarling and snapping, grabbing at the same tattered bit of poster or whatever. Yep. Good that you are the Forward Scout and that you point out the path for me to follow (someday)!
Loving these posts so much….

Wow – so bright and quaint and interesting- looks amazing and so many things to paint!!! Thanks for sharing and the food looks scrumptious too!

Oh, food at last! I was afraid you were on a hunger strike! And doesn’t that look scrumptious! Every single bite of that sandwich, dessert and the coffee in a bowl! Who knew? I did know they (chinese) took tea in bowls but didn’t know about coffee. Also so eastern Europeans drink their coffee from a glass. So many different customs.
Your strolls thru the neighborhoods is wonderful. What lovely colors and quaint windows & doors.
I can’t wait to hear about your visit with Ingrid.
