when i travel i usually carry a small notebook in my bag. a journal, but also a place for hastily scrawled maps, notes, and whatever else i want to record while i'm on a walkabout. also it's an excuse to stop frequently and sit. and stare. and listen. the world is full of interesting sounds.
if you have a checklist of sites to see and places to go, you will detest traveling with me. i resist herding. think of me like a stray dog. i just follow my nose! ruff ruff! wag wag!
my mini-notebook is a rather advanced structure and terribly complicated to construct. here's how i did it: glued 2 postcards to the back & front of a tiny notebook i had laying around, dry adhesived paper over the spine, slapped on some labels, jotted down my name & number on the inside cover. don't frustrate yourself by attempting this at home.
oh by the way, this is NOT my main travel journal. i save that for working on in the apartment once i've retired for the day. most of my sketches will be from photos, things in the apartment, or things seen from the balcony. i'll probably take it out with me a few times over the course of a couple of weeks. keeping in mind of course… that i frequently do the opposite of what i say.
AND
i cannot be held accountable for what i don't know i am not going to do. my mind changes on a whim. except now that i'm a 52 year old menopausal woman the changes are more erratic.
i went on a vintage swedish postcard buying spree. maybe i went overboard. or maybe i didn't. they are v.v. pretty!
here's that hibiscus coconut tea i was bragging about in the last post. add some lime juice & ice.
voila!
i'm 99% sure that these little tomatoes will need to be painted later.
hope something fun is blowing your skirt up. somewhere. you'll keep me posted.

I am going to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway in September. Can’t wait to see your posted pics in a few weeks!
I have been coloring in this awesome color book -http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Garden-Inky-Treasure-Coloring/dp/1780671067/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1433964997&sr=8-6&keywords=coloring+book+for+adults
It’s pretty fun and makes it totally legal to sit around and watch tv (because I am doing something constructive like coloring of course!).

Great. But I can’t imagine painted tomatoes are as tasty as stewed or sauced tomatoes.

I wonder: Could you possibly make the instructions for the notebook less complicated??? HA. Made me think of those program warnings: Don’t try this at home!
Looks like you’re all set to go to Sweden. Just throw a few things in a bag and hit the airport. Is sister coming with you?
You might have mentioned it, but my memory is v.short.

Hi! How do we make this delicious-looking hibiscus tea? And now i’m craving vintage postcards-go to eBay or Etsy for that? You are having a great. As for me, I’m doodling on lampshades and painting it in-it’s awesome fun.

How many pens / markers do you travel with? How much paint?

The tea, I can’t stop thinking about it…I’m going on a quilt retreat this weekend and there’s no alcohol allowed, I’m going to bring an awesome iced tea with me, this may just be the one! It looks delish. I laughed out loud at the mini notebook directions! Thanx, for always making me smile!

Mary Ann–You are a woman after my own heart — don’t fence me in and all that–i like to randomly do what I want to do too. And I always travel with two travel journals too, I’m off to Spain and Morocco in the fall and I just bought a slew of vintage postcards too. See? great minds think a like.
