Skategirls of Kabul in pictures by photographer Jessica Fulford-Dobson. See more pics HERE.
Behold! Evidence:
Of crazy beautiful GIRLS skateboarding in Kabul, Afghanistan.
They aren't permitted to ride bikes so they skateboard.
Glimmering eyes, posture strong, feet on the ground. Aren't they glorious? I love them!
They are the perfect antidote to gruesome violence & irrational extremism that seem to be on the rise.
Small kernels of hope to deposit in your mind.
You can read the Guardian article HERE.
SKATEISTAN is the non-profit behind this brilliant idea. They're doing good work in Cambodia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

Oh my HEART. These girls.

I can’t imagine living in a country where females are NOT allowed to ride bikes or drive cars. Things that we take for granted in this country. So happy for them to have some joy in their lives.
Aloha, Kate

Well that just made me smile huge. Thanks for sharing this Mary Ann. It underlines, how sweet life can be, even in the midst of such tragedy and violence. We need more stories like this.

Thanks for sharing. The world’s craziness can get overwhelming at times. You might like a similar themed movie on Netflix. It was directed by a woman who had to direct from a van by phone because of the separation of men and women in Saudi Arabia. The name of the movie is “Wadjda.” It’s about a young girl who is determined to get a bike even though girls are not allowed to ride bikes in Saudi Arabia. It shows what women must endure living there, but there is a hopefulness throughout, and a sweet ending.
