more foolery in my visual journal. i’m in ashley goldberg’s paint plan play class where pattern making & background painting have been the focus.
i thought i’d share what i’ve been doing in the class, that i first mentioned HERE.
sort of wish i would have planned better and got a less business looking planner. but really all i wanted to do was punch holes in the paper i’m painting and insert into the rings. punch insert punch insert repeat.
i don’t keep a planner or make lists, although occasionally i enjoy jotting down ideas on a To Don’t list. so this concept is foreign to me.
all the paper in the planner is plain white cardstock which is what ashley recommended and since i had a stack sitting around i used it. so glad i did as i would never have thought to paint on it.
pattern making is messy fun. i’m a fan.
pam gave me a big paint by number scrap last time she was here. i’m a little punch crazy so whatever my eye lands on that’s punchable is getting punched. (think will have my 5th graders evaluate the soundness of that last sentence and rewrite)
suzanne, that means your horsey postcard from iceland is going in my planner.
i’m going to use my planner to capture all loose floating cwazy cwap that’s worthy of being saved. i probably won’t do any writing.
in amsterdam last year i bought some gold gouache that i was certain i’d not use much, but it was only a few euros so i got it. ashley makes gold paint look cool. i think it’s fascinating how trend setters have a way of making formerly uninteresting things appealing. ya know? now if she’d just set a trend for my fugly black planner i could learn to love it.
happy glorious sunday to you! hope you’re getting up to something good in your studios or in your travel lives. do share below if you feel like it.
over and out from moss cottage, where all the women are strong, all the cats are good lookin, and all the ideas are above average. xo.

Oh, this looks like a really FUN planner… can’t wait to see more! I use a little red Moleskine datebook for my “log”
and I journal, of course…

saltairandpistachios has art and travel throughout all the posts. Take a peek. Your blog, Dispatch from LA is always entertaining. Do you do much art with your 5th graders?

Once when my art journal fell apart because of intense collages, I took everything out and put them in a 3-ring binder and was darn proud of my cleverness. Now here you are with your Binder Reminder! And I love your pattern pages, To Don’t list and cwazy cwap! Much to love! And did someone mention Doc Martin? Where oh where is he?

You can’t go wrong painting on some lovely white gesso on your planner cover. EVERYTHING is better with GESSO.
GESSO my world is my motto. Your planner cover will then become something that is ready, willing and able to show-off
More of your exquisite “quisites”.

I’m lovin the pattern play you are hip deep in the middle of and also pretty darn pleased you go planner-less, me too. I think that makes you even more amazing than you already are. For me it just means that my days look pretty much the same 365 and the occasional dip in the road can be dutifully logged on a post-it on the fridge and that is that. I tried keeping a planner once and I failed miserably. There is one calendar on the wall it serves for a quick glance at the month but nary a pen mark has been entered on it. Far as that black cover goes, dig out that sewing machine of yours and sew up an ROD slip cover for it…easy peasy and I know you have a stash of scraps dutifully collected somewhere in Moss cottage. Have an awesome week!

I bet if you were to get some paint stains going onto that planner, it will look much better!

Can see you’ve gone to a somewhat fall palette, so beautiful and inspiring. Can’t wait to get home from work and do some pattern painting.

I second SusanS — you don’t use a planner??? Not even a calendar?? Seriously, how does that work? But regardless, this “planner” full of painted pages beats any I’ve seen!

I love all those patterns! I want to make some but I have to go study my Spanish verbs for my class tomorrow….I want to PLAY abut I have to STUDY! Didn’t think I’d be writing that sentence at 64….
XO
SusanS says
wait, wait, what!? You Don’t Keep a Planner or a to do list? You keep all that in your pointy little head? Do tell…
Probably explains why you never made it to Albuquerque. Probably forgot your SISTER LIVES HERE and there are 2 (two!) Susans here dying to trot you around…
