let me introduce my new living room desk and swivel chair. i am v.v. pleased with both. as you know, moss cottage is tiny. 650 sq. feet of tiny to be exact. little house. big lot. suits me fine. except that i have to use my space wisely. that means my neighbor susan inherited my palm springs mid-century chair, which was making me cross. i never sat in it and it took up way too much room.
so i traded it in for this desk and chair. i've been wanting a desk in my living room for over a decade! i now have another place to work in my visual journals while i binge on episodes of last tango in halifax. which by the way, MANY of you told me about, but i only just started. it's terrific!
a wonderful brazilian fellow i found on the interwebs just came over and set it up lickety split. not only was he friendly, he worked fast, and he disposed of every shred of packaging. mr. assembly that's him! he wheeled his big tool case up the drive and was done within an hour. wow. if you're in LA and you need someone to assemble something HE is your guy.
over and out from moss cottage… where the women are strong, the cats (and furniture assemblers) are goodlooking, and all the ideas are above average.

So lovely and perfect for your cottage. I can’t even tell you how much I love visiting Moss Cottage, a peek into a world I would love to live in if I didn’t already have a little world that I love. I guess what I mean is, if I couldn’t be me, I’d like to be you! Can’t wait to put that show on my netflix list. Sounds like a good one to spend the winter knitting to here in middle America.

Last Tango is fantastic… noone can do drama or comedy like the Brits. Mind you I wanted to slap Celia about a bit when she first met Kate.
, and as for John, well… what a total nitwit!! He is just too absolutely stupid to be for real…isn’t he?
And I want that chair… I have never seen sucha comfy looking swivel desk chair. But it’s still only second in line to the orange chair… 🙂

Love the desk, and the bookcases even more! I ordered the first season of Last Tango In Halifax. Looks like it’s right up my alley…

I always enjoy peeking inside Moss Cottage. I’ve eyed that desk at West Elm – good choice! Wyatt apparently agrees. I spy two shelves of your journals, with such pretty spines. You’ve got me watching “Last Tango in Halifax” now!

Love the setup! New furniture always brings out the territorial proprietorship in a cat. Around here it usually takes about a week of fighting for human use of any new furniture that comes in the door. But then I’m just a guest in our cats’ house…

jennifer i LOVED transparent. so so good.
the desk and swivel chair both are from west elm. ordered ‘em online. chair comes assembled and straight to your door then inside your house. easy!
Jennifer says
Very lovely, but the swivel chair, no one has asked yet about the swivel chair which I can SO imagine in my loft/office space. Did you perhaps order online? A belated thank you for your tip about the program “Transparent” – the characters were so wonderfully quirky, I enjoyed every minute.

Love your use of space! I have a 550 sq ft cottage by the beach and might be “borrowing” some of your ideas. I am in love with your new chair and desk, lamp is pretty gorgeous too.

Love your new desk AKA cat lookout station. After all it is IMPERATIVE for the cat posse to have a lookout, gotta know what is going on both in and outside of Moss Cottage. It fits perfectly, it’s s shame you had to loose that chair but whatevs I just know you are gonna get spend some serious time at that desk. It’s a great size too. Enjoy your new set up. VBG

Oh Last Tango is superb, especially since I lived in Yorkshire for 7 years and love, love, love that scenery. The Mum is a bit of a snit at the beginning and I got a bit ticked at that but…no more spoilers.
Your ‘cat bed’ is gorgeous and it’s great to have assemblers. Life is too short to bother with that kinda crapola. But even better is your a/c/heater. I can’t wait til we get one or two for our 1910 house! DH is finally on board with the idea. WooEE!

This room makes me smile…W I D E…just to view it.
May you spend many happy hours here doing what you do so well.
Peace and peace, again MaryAnn.

A hot Brazilian handyman? Count me in! And I’m local too.
Hmm, let’s see…what needs fixin’? Oh I know- I’ve been meaning to change the light bulb in the dining room chandelier since it went out during Thanksgiving dinner in 2012. (Who cares if I never go in the dining room; it’s been bothering me. Really.)
How much do you think he’ll charge for that?
Oh, and LOVE the desk!
Connie Rose says
Looking great!! FYI, a new series of Last Tango will start in February (I think). xo
Joan says
Oh yes! I love the sleekness of that desk which is perfectly complimented by the lamp. Is it vintage? Is the desk from Ikea? Can’t wait until we finally get an Ikea store in this city which is rumored to be 2016. We’ll see.
I love to see the interiors of homes…yours is very nice. Perfect for you & Wyatt.
Thanks for sharing so much of your life with us.

You’re going to love Last Tango in Halifax. I just got done binge-ing my way through it, and it’s wonderful. Enjoy that new desk! I was just moving a few things around in my craft room (nee dining room) and its wonderful to shake things up from time to time 🙂

What I notice is that everything (and I mean everything) in the room is beautiful. There is a look of care in how you placed things, and the desk has good light and there is a view and the shelves are nearby and you can be inspired and grateful there are people who can come to assemble things. You go, girlfriend! This is a sanctuary!

Two thumbs up for the whole shebang. Love it. 🙂

You just gave me an idea when I noticed the AC unit in the wall. I have one of those waiting to be installed. I have no money to fill the tanks with fuel but my air condition gives off cold and hot air. It’s an idea to think about. I would have to pay someone to install it. It would making living much more pleasant.
Wendy Frances Milone says
The bunny is adorable. I had eleven bunnies as pets so I love them dead or alive, lol. I do have some elk horns and I love having them in the room. I miss having an animal in my life. A real one, lol. An orange cat visits my garden often. She loves belly rubs. It gives me a moment to touch base with nature. I really don’t understand cats, though. Back to decorating, it gives a room new energy.
Sandy Derryberry says
It may be small, but you have one of the prettiest spaces that I know of. Once these kiddies fly the coop I dream of such a place as this. I knew you would love that show…one of the best I’ve seen lately 🙂
Linda Watson says
Looks good and fits perfectly. Always good to have more workroom, especially if it is installed by dark and handsome. And – this is kind of spooky, but is that a papier mache figure, third shelf down, on the left? If so, I have one with blonde hair that says “Ofelia.” She’s been with me for a very long time.
Bobi says
Looks like Wyatt is happy with his new desk. Maybe he’ll let you use it if you ask nicely.
Rhonda H says
Lookin’ good! Always nice to have more room to journal on!
