i'm rather fond of the newest kid on the block. he's only about the size of a phone. in my usual hasty manner i drew some gulls. although it looks like these were hopping about as i sketched them, they were actually from google images. very still.
there are some darling little beach cottages in carpinteria. in my mind i am living in one of them in 10 years. maybe this one:
won't that be swell?

Got my tiny w/c sketchbook last week at the U of O. Love it! The gulls do look like you sketched them live at the beach! I can’t wait to try it as well. You know Mary Ann, in about 10 years you just might have a bunch of blog following neighbors settling into those beach houses! I had one and I loved it. Would love to again. What a great way to retire!

Marcia, I’ve done collage journals and love that the only real supplies I need are scissors and a glue stick! And there’s something about snow (dare I speak it’s name) that really gets one settled in, focused and creative. I know ’cause I’m in Syracuse, NY! Mary Ann, the cottage with the blue door is so fine and must be larger than it looks ’cause there’s another house inside it!

LOVE those gulls MAM. Thanks for the constant eye candy as of late!

Hi MAM,
I have seen sketch books similar to yours at Michael’s Arts and Crafts store and, if I remember correctly, they have watercolor paper in them. They are a great size for when you travel as they don’t take up a lot of room, but allow you to do quick sketches or drawings on the fly.
Last year I bought a small spiral book about the size of your small one that I decided to call “Just Because”. I decorated the cover with collage materials and inside I have done small collages…as the spirit moves me. They can be done quickly and reflect the mood of the day or whatever is going on around me, such as last winter when we had an ice/snow day here in the deep south. It was quite unusual (it shut our fair town down for several days!) and I immortalized it on a couple of pages of that book. What fun it will be in a few years from now to look at those pages and remember that unexpected SNOW DAY!
Just think of all the happy memories, trips and retreats you’ll be able to remember a few years down the road from now with the aid of your sketchbooks! Great idea and thanks for inspiring your peeps to follow along and make their own memory books.

I hope your dream and wish will come true. Just like mine did 11 years ago today. Keep on sketching and living your life.

Love your birds! I miss sketching, I need to come back to the bright side. I have been working on jewelry for two long, but it will soon be time to break! I love your style, it inspires me so, and even though I am not commenting all the time, I am looking, reading, and dreaming!

Adore you gulls Mary Ann. They are adorable. That cottage that you have your eye on is also quite adorable. I can picture you hanging you hat there just fine.

Cute beach cottage – I want the one next door.
Great gulls. What did you use for the green outline on the laughing gull? I like the color and how it bleeds a bit.

Yes, it would definitely be swell. I love that place.
