i was first to arrive at the citrus house in palm springs.
and since i'd accidently forgotten my swim costume i plunged into the pool without it before the rest of the art posse got there.
promise me you will NOT try and visualize that in your mind. okay?
it was exhilarating. i made lemonade with lemons i picked from the tree in the yard.
i sat in all the chairs. sampled the beds. found the bikes (!) looked in all the cabinets. walked all over the yard and admired the succulents. turned lights on and off. looked in the freezer. opened drawers. closed them. sat at the desk. opened the blinds.
you know. just the usual stuff you do when you get to a vacation rental.
it was a mid-century ranch. clean. spare. white with bright splashes of yellow here & there. fresh. lovely.
while i was at the airport collecting my sister, pam arrived with her bags and boxs of fun art supplies. I left mine at home along with the swim costume and a fabulous bottle of wine. drat.
although my pictures show otherwise it was dark by then. we headed out for margaritas & dinner. carol & pam ordered the 27 oz. margs. i had ordered the 12 oz. but they insisted i get a BIG one. so i did. this would turn out to be somewhat regrettable.
on our way back home only 1 out of the 3 of us were still strapped and loaded. the other 2 left their uncomfortable brassiers back at the restaurant. i won't say who. i won't say where. i just won't.
we gathered in the living room for a a night of hilarity. blind sketching like i had watched carla do HERE.
and lots of yackity yacky yack.
rumbling laughter.
screams.
all of that.
don't try and draw a duck-billed platypus with your eyes closed after drinking margaritas. just don't.
2 of the 3 of us snored unnecessarily loud that night. 1 of us sleepwalked. someone else had a lucid dream.
the next morning 2 of us went to get coffee and croissants and cinammon rolls while the other one rummaged through our stuff and read our journals.
it was a bright blue glittering day.
someone left the house in her pajamas and house shoes.
but at least she was wearing a brassiere.
part 2 tomorrow!

My folks lived in Palm Springs for years…this house looks like it’s in the old section near the airport. Is it near Ramon Road or close to Palm Canyon? Lots of memories of the town. Used to be the best place to shop for trendy clothes.
Looks like you had a blast. Lots of fun and memories made on trips like this. I hope you get together often. Hilarity is THE spice of life.

I’d have been totally happy to sit and look through all the journals while you gals go galavanting! Of course I’d expect you to smuggle some margarita back to me … that shouldn’t be a problem … right??

TMI (too much information)? I think not! Sounds like you 3 were just as wild and crazy as we all were expecting you to be and then some, I love it!! Can’t wait for Part 2, because the first installment was so darned entertaining!

Did the lucid dream have anything to do with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. serenading you by the pool? The whole scene is just too much for me…I fear I am living in the wrong era b/c I suddenly want to don some white patent leather go-go boots, turn on my record player, spray some Cheese Whiz on some Ritz and have a crafting-by-the-pool party w/you, the sistahhhhs, and Amy Sedaris! I am so happy to hear your tales of joy that are more than well deserved. You 3 will cherish these sisterly memories forever.
Barbara says
Oh my, what a fun time!! And your sister has the same gnome jammies as me!!
natalea says
I just love to hear the telling of your tales…xo

Mary Ann, this is so lovely. You look fresh and rested by the pool there. Fabulous photos of a beautiful place. You can’t think how I envy you all.
And I admire the way you’ve managed to change the room in Picture 1 into something real and vibrant. Just look at that Carol. Do you call that a Onesie over there? Seems I’ve heard that. Your fashion statement Sister.
It’s good to have found Pam ‘s blog. I’m going there right now for inspiration.

I kept thinking you sounded like Golidlocks at first but later on, I would say not. Sounds like it was a great weekend. Thanks for the story.
Leslie J. Moran says
You had me at the mention of the margaritas. The picture of Carol with Pam on the floor really sets the scene for the hilarity that followed. OMG what a bunch! Can’t wait for part 2.
julie macneil says
omg! i knew i wanted to go along, it all sounds perfect so far!
Pam says
Hahaha. I want to go back already! Especially since I was there but don’t recall half of the incidents you recount. – And it has nothing to do with that delicious and diminutive margarita! You take the best pictures and tell the stories in the best way, oh wise one. Xoxo
Susie LaFond says
Ok all I will say is that it sounds like your weekend was filled to the brim with all that is (good) depends on, shall we say the circumstances at the time, I wasn’t there or maybe I was and just don’t remember..but having read this ‘twice’ I think I might have been and fell in the pool after getting back…would explain a few things…anyhoo I am happy you had a grand and full weekend, the photos are the BOMB and it looks as tho a fun and amazing time was had by all. Do spill any details you may have left out. I promise I can keep a secret. 😉
Connie Rose says
How fun!!!
Gwen Delmore says
Now that you are in your 50’s it is legal to leave your brassiere wherever you like. No one cares anymore, HA!
celeste says
love. is it a town ordinance that Palm Springs homes be decorated with a 50s-70s look? if so, I want to go to there. (and have a lemon tree in my yard, i miss that)
