I'm plunked down in front of the window at 11 watching the sun go down. Red clouds lighting up the sky. Rain is coming tomorrow. I want to tell you about my forest ramble and the site I found to take sister on a picnic and the skerries I saw today and how much I love standing on the deck of a high speed boat and watching the bright blue north sea whizzing by.
And a zillion other things, but I have to pack and give my travel journal some attention before I go to bed.
More tomorrow from alesund!
In the meantime here's some randomness…
cups to go with the bowls anyone?
2 am in Bergen.
this is getting folded and packed tomorrow. Headed to alesund, Norway tomorrow with sister!!!!
Will miss my little Bergen loveshack, but am looking forward to tramping around alesund which is a very luscious very small fairytale town further north (we are flying). Around the turn of the century nearly the entire town burned to the ground in a terrible fire. Germany sent war ships filled with supplies to rebuild. The entire town was rebuilt in jugendstil (art nouveau) style. It's the town in my Facebook cover photo!
My Norwegian loo. Bright and gleaming white. I talk to the neighbor's kitty through the window.

A resting place on the way up the hill!
Today I splurged and took a cab. Sweet heavenly bliss to be transported directly to my little house. Like magic.
Everything you need right out your front door…I adore these tidy little entrances. Even the weeds look good!
so many plants in windows. All competing for the rare and precious sunlight. They all seem to be thriving.

Loving all the details (and the little red house)!

I forgot to mention that the attention to detail by both man and God is stunning (way to raise the bar).

I am trying to imagine taking a stroll in that magnificent 2:00 am light. I think it would do wonders for my writing.
Stupid question: Do Norwegians tend to have longer hours because of the late sunset? Or is it beddie bye at 10:00 like us?

Norway is a beautiful country. I live in North Dakota where a lot of people who homesteaded the area are of Norweigean descent. Some even have relatives yet there. North Dakota has close ties with Norway. Norway’s royalty comes to visit every few years. Some years ago a local lady visited Norway where her father came from. As she toured the farm where he grew up, she noticed a poem on one of the rafters of a barn. She copied it down and either asked her father or found out that her father wrote the poem there before he left to come to America. It is a beautiful song. So all of this talk of Norway has me remembering this song. A local high school choir performed this in Norway during a summer tour. Enjoy a little performance of this song

I seem to have missed what skerries are, could you elaborate?

That loo is just sparking! Redolent with a certain reassuring quality.
Just a suggestion, if you visit Italy again? You may find the loos a bit questionable by comparison. Their loos are ‘hygienized for your protection.’ I have no idea what this means, but I think it’s something that occurs once, early in a loo’s life when it gets a sticker attached to it that says its hygienized, and is rarely if every repeated. I saw enough examples of questionably hygienized loos to where I felt it was not an isolated phenomenon. I love Italy, but, its facilities are rarely equipped with all the features that are standard in well, I’m sure in Norwegian loos.
Oh and not sure they come with cats for company either…

OMG..I’m gushing over here…what awesome sweet peeks of your Bergen experience thus far…everytime I check your blog I let out a squeal of bliss and my DD’s who are home these days (summer break) want to know what all the fuss is about and they generally don’t have to ask since they almost always guess whose blog I am looking at. I reserve my audible responses for my favorite travel guide. 😉
