Howdy, I'm Mary Ann Moss, the chimp at the helm of this ship. I've been blogging right here since 2007 and exploring the world & driving getaway cars since 1963.

The activity I love most (next to creating with paper, of course!) is sorting my paper! A few days ago I cleaned out and reorganized my ephemera album, a photo album in which the photo pockets hold a variety of stuff, new and old, that I’ve collected over the years. Great fun!

I love recognising some of those papers we found on the Ile de Chatou!

Susan, thanks for all the information on “penmanship” – I like that word :-), and for posting these two great sites!
I am excited to look at them today!!

That big plastic box of your looks dangerously low in paper – I’d better send you some more, heaven knows what you’d get up to if you ran out!

Most elementary schools have switched to “D’Nealian” cursive which is an ugly round hand with minimal slant and an ungainly, squatty look – taught for efficiency and speed rather than appearance. It is also introduced earlier in children’s schooling, overlooking the fact that kids don’t develop the appropriate hand muscle coordination needed to easily manage and execute script writing. Handwriting* in older (olden) days was usually taught through the Palmer method which involved lots of practice with slanting lines, loopy loops and even flourishes, which is why grandmothers and great grandmothers have such pretty writing.
*It used to be called penmanship, which tells a lot about how it was valued. Awards were even given.

I have heard that they might stop teaching cursive writing in schools – Ohhhh how sad is that!?! It is such a beautiful artform! I’ve often wished that they would go back to teaching the REALLY beautiful cursive from years gone by, like the writing on your balance sheet there in your lovely picture, Mary Ann, NOT stop teaching it all together!!
I’ve tried to learn to write that way and have never been able to accomplish it – IT ISN’T EASY!!
OK – time for more lemonade – standing on a soapbox makes me thirsty.

Where do you look for interesting “paper”? I know you can find stuff at flea markets and antique stores….but where else do you look?

boy I wish I had the gumption to go at some shenanigans like paper sorting…………..ahhhhh yes, you better remove the fotos from your blog as any paper artist is liable to break in this evening and take off with the shenanigans box!!! Put the cat posse on high alert!!!

do you ever lay awake considering your paper box is serious kidnapping material? Could be held for ransom? Could ruin you financially because you adore it so much. Possible paper box guard consideration here. Do you have a security system in place besides the cat posse? Food for thought Mary Ann … serious food for thought! :o) Donna

OOOoooohhhhh, such lovely lusciousness paper-wise. Hmmmm, I seem to remember waaay back you “vowed” to NOT wait “another” 300 blog posts until you offered another give-a-way. I know this because I read alllll the way back… Those papers are definitely lust-worthy and therefore share-worthy; consider?

Grinning, cuz I have been doing the same thing the last few hours, finsished a journal so that means putting some stuff away and bringing other stuff out, fresh scraps, begin again, and see what the next paper adventure will bring…nice to know I’ve had company doing the same thing a few thousand miles to the west. It’s such fun digging around see what resurfaces for the next journal. Still amazed by FTB journals on flickr. You bring out the very best in those gathered around you to learn…I do say and will say it again and again…:)

Yoo Hoo…. excuse me. Knock Knock. I need just a wee bit of that paper with the balance sheet figures on it. You know the one. With the beautiful dollar signs that have the extra long strokes through the S that give them that dressed up look? Can you send me one for my everyday journal please. Just one dollar sign will be sufficient.
Signed,
Your sister who never got inpatient or hurried you during swimming lessons
