Morning. Paying a visit inside the pages of my visual journal. See all the patterns and chaos on these pages? That's the reason I must have an ordered environment in my art room. I know lots of people who function brilliantly within a chaotic studio. I'm just not one of them. I need spareness but… I'm no neatnik (!) so order doesn't come naturally to me. It's an ongoing effort. A big effort. But the feeling of spaciousness it opens up inside is narcotic bliss.
Istanbul travel journal plus buck's tale
I'm on a mini-holiday today! The schools are closed for Veteran's Day. Los Angeles has settled into a lovely autumn holding pattern of sunny days in the 70's and nights dipping into the upper 40's. I'll just be here. Drifting outside then back in again. Happy Thursday to wherever in the wide world you are right now…

Wow Mary Ann! I’ve just found your blog and I LOVE your travel journals!! Do you print some photos while you’re on holiday to put into your journal? And what do you do with all the others? You capture the destinations so well – very inspiring both for journaling and travelling!!

ahhh, the juicy journal! ..it’s really about that doily under your cup of coffee ;))

Oh! I see you have your cup of coffee dangerously near your rinsing water. How many times have I washed my brush in my cup – but I haven’t so far sipped my paint water.
I particularly like the drawing on the cups and saucers, so lively. I have to say I sigh over how clever you are.
I am naturally tidy without effort at all. My friends don’t like it, they worry that I spend too much time on housework – if only they knew. I find myself saying, ‘I do try to be untidy but I can’t manage it. Sorry.’ True story.

You have a wonderful way with color that puts me in narotic bliss:) I like to sneak away to a corner in my house with my laptop, ignore the screaming hordes of off-spring (3 teenange boys + friends), and visually lap up your journals like a dang thirsty dog with water. A moment of sublime saturation, then back to the fray! Thanks Mary Ann.

I’m in Indiana enjoying weather in the 70s by day and 40s by night. But it is unseasonable warm for us. Love your journals! If life slows down just a bit, I’m taking your Remains of the Day class!

When I get really busy with client deadlines and stuff, I HAVE to have neatness! I grab everything on my desk and put it in a paper bag…boot up illustrator and create. Next day…I grab everything on my desk and put it into another paper bag…boot up illustrator and create. The bags take over the office until a client comes for a meeting and the bags go into the spare bedroom. Then the process starts afresh in my “CLEAN” office. Until a family member comes for a visit. AHHH! Then I gotta go through the dang bags.
Your stuff is A M A Z I N G Mary Ann. So full of energy and inspiring for me!!

Dear, sweet, Mary Ann! Your incredible line drawings over the teacups up there just gave me art direction for a MAJOR project. BLESS YOU AND BUCK’s TAIL!
Thank you thank you. Plus I’m going to have to also steal your turn of phrase narcotic bliss. That is also perfect to describe such things as this!
