While the cat posse study the back patio shenanigans, I have gone forth into the gardens and patios of friends to steal ideas.
Everything is lush and Mediterranean at Cristina's cottage. I've always wanted an enormous bougainvilla rambling over something.
I have been promised a cutting of this brugmansia Angel Trumpet tree when I am ready. They are easy to start by just sticking the branch in the soil. Garden of Eden here I come!
In addition to coveting her garden, my eyes glinted and narrowed when I saw the gate. But how to get it off it's hinges with a glass of wine in my hand? I endeavor to study this more carefully.
In the meantime some tiles arrived.
And I've made a trip to the nursery to take a look at the succulents. Nearly every container that was on my patio will be planted in the ground. Less to trip over when I'm walking around in a stupor of some kind or another.

My dear Ms. Moss! I will glad you make a few starts of brugmonsia as well what colors do you desire? I have yellow, goldenishie color, white? Your yard is shaping up to be beautimossness…

I’m so, so, so, so, SO happy for you and I’m so, so, so, so, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous. I have a 3000sq’ back yard that is so overwhelming I cannot even begin to tell you how stymied I am whenever I sit in it. I’ve done some low tech pavers stuff, but I want major work like yours.
Love the progress shots.

toxicity warnings noted and heeded. thank you!

I know others have warned you, but I want to impress upon you that the Angel’s Trumpet is poisonous to people and animals. Every part of the plant is toxic; the leaves, the flowers, the stems and the sap. I’m afraid for your cats. I think they are beautiful, too, but I am content to enjoy them from afar because of my pets.

alcohol-induced, craft-monkey-induced, spray paint-induced…so many stupors to choose from!
(can’t wait to see the garden when it’s done!)

Yeah, the Angels Trumpet is the devil in disguise. I was advised not to fall asleep under one because if the sap falls into my eyes I’ll be blinded. So. Don’t sleep under the Angels trumpet. Duh! I can see all the beauty from your recent trips coming together in one beautiful place with a fountain, a tiled wall, succulents, stolen gates, stolen ideas, and who knows what else. Be careful not to get it so pretty that you can’t spray out there.
I’m really happy for you.

Very exciting! The black and white on the right (Buck?) with the ears back is priceless. Here’s how you do the gate: go back under cover of dark with a screwdriver and some 3-in-1 oil. (Do some weight-lifting work first as prep.) And as other commenters have said, watch the Angel’s Trumpet.

Please check out the Angel’s Trumpet toxicity warning– I have heard this before and there is also info on Wiki about it (which says toxic to both humans and animals). It’s lovely, though.

What are you doing with your camera to get those 50s looking images? They’re just wonderful!

How exciting! I can’t wait to see how your new garden paradise turns out! My bff and I collected tiles for her home in Mexico for months from all over. It was such fun and every single one felt like such a treasure and work of art. So many great dreams and memories go into the planning and building. It is almost as exciting as enjoying the finished product–almost! 😉

Is that going to be a fountain in that first photo? If so it’s amazing!! You’re going to have a gorgeous get-away right in your own backyard. When is the party?? 🙂

Looks like great things are in the making. And just a bit of Portugal, from the looks of the tiles. But Mary Ann, I seriously suggest putting down the glass of wine first, before tackling that gate. It looks way to heavy for one handed handling…

just be watchful that whatever foliage you choose is not toxic to the cat posse… 😉
