My new macro lens is the microscope I always wanted. I followed some ants around today, but they wouldn't hold still long enough. The range of focus is so narrow nothing can move. Nothing. Which makes stationary objects so easy to capture, but not nearly as mysterious.
World after world opening behind every petal and leaf. I am caught in the grip of pure wonder. Or insanity. Or curiosity.
Or delusion. My kalenchoe tomentosa is wearing a powdery coat with chocolate tips.
Lately I don't want to write in my visual journal. My regular writing journal is the repository of my deep and shallow thoughts. All I want to do is paint shapes that look suspiciously like eggs or jelly beans. Must be channeling the easter bunny.
Apparently I'm in a hurry. Maybe I'm being chased.
I don’t know. I’m seeing plenty of mystery through your new macro lens.
I think I relate. Your shapes are really cool.
I’ve been busy painting shapes and wondering why I’m painting shapes and then I came over here the other day and saw that you’re painting shapes. I think it’s probably about Easter. There’s all these spring-y colors, too. Love it.
We went to the gardens sunday and my macro was on overtime. It really does something to me. Maybe the big, close, colorful focus and shapy-ness is indicative of something?
love, love, love your blog!!!!
Do you feel you may be under someone’s macro lens?? Spooooooky
When I havent been here in a while…I always forget how much I love your blog!
Love the pics… especially the Lantana at the top. I haven’t seen any blooming here yet.
You’re in a hurry? The size of things is changing around you?
You’re late, you’re late….. for a very important date?? It sounds like you’re in White Rabbit territory Alice!!
Your blog is always a visual feast for the eyes!
I am just now getting hooked on photography, but I can feel the obsession rising. I have no idea about macro lenses and such, but seeing your exquisite photos makes me want to expand my abilities. Thank you for the inspiration!
Congrats on your new lens! I’ve been wanting a macro for a long time (I’m a photographer). They are a lot of fun and you discover such great new things with them 🙂 I love the shapes and colors in your journals 🙂
****GASP****
always such a visual treat when I come here- thank goodness it is calorie free.
xoxo
Gorgeous girl, simply gorgeous. The photos are amazing and your recent journal pages feel light hearted to me…like you are blooming from the inside out…they are like your inner macros…close up shots of where your heart is…who needs words, sometimes silence reads better than the best novel…listening with your eyes,
Love the photos! The red flowers… ooooh, ahhh and I’m in the middle of Remains of the Day and LOVING IT! I have had many many battles with my sad little sewing machine and I have won, so now it is working just fine. Funny tidbit, I live about a mile from Garrison and was an extra in his movie a few years ago, very fun experience!
I love my camera’s macro focus. It’s like a slow magnifying glass (can’t see what it sees at time, but later…………..)
I love what you are doing in your journal, and sometimes words get in the way!!
What lens do you have? I really, really want a macro- deciding on one is the trouble!
Lantana flower (top shot) — they have an odd smell but a strange beauty, with that seductive gradation and many-flowered cluster. I am from Australia, where this plant is a noxious weed; it amazed me to find it cultivated here in SoCal.
I too have a macro lens and find it wonderful for flowers and food.
You and I have other things in common. I live in LA (west SFV). I dig Garrison and Ira. I sew in my journals. And my best childhood friend lived on Moss St, so besides loving the bryophyte itself, I have good associations with the word.
Cheers!
They do look like eggs. As a jewelry maker, they also remind me of strings of beads… or pearls… Love, love, love your macro photos!!!
