Algoa Bay, South Africa. My sister, Dottie sends me dispatches from her African odyssey. People and animals she meets along the way.
Some time last week while I lay sleeping, she headed out in a boat to experience…
dolphins!
Back in the 15th century it was believed that the edge of the world lay just beyond this bay. Portugese explorers turned back or mutinied rather than push forward and risk falling off the edge of the world. Finally, after much perseverance my friend Vasco de Gama successfully sailed around the Cape of Good Hope.
I’m enamoured with explorers. And exploring.
and monkeys.
Dottie is here with an African Studies professor and a group of college students. They are working with school children, among other things.
I wouldn’t mind spending the day with this group.
